HOUSE IN CALI
Cali, Colombia
Private commission
Built
in collaboration with Diego Perez
Varying roof geometry and its algorithmically generated structural supports give this house an spatial appeal that sets it apart from the conventional single family houses of the region. Designed for a family of four, house CCIJ responds to an idea of openness towards distant views of Los Andes' mountain range to the west, and close views of beautiful communal gardens to the east. Located in the outskirts of Cali, a very hot city in Colombia, passive cooling of the interior spaces of the house was a paramount design driver. Its material specifications, together with generous floor to ceiling height, large openings that let east-west winds circulate freely, and a combination of overhangs and strategic placement on the site, allow its interior spaces to enjoy a cool atmosphere all day long.
